For many of us, libraries aren’t just buildings; they are the starting points for our biggest ambitions. Meet one of the San José Public Library Foundation‘s (SJPLF) newest board members for 2026, Mark Sarpa, Executive Vice President at Corefact, to talk about his journey from the library stacks to the baseball diamond—and why he’s dedicated to giving back.

Mark's Wife and Grandchildren

Libraries played a foundational role in Mark’s life and education, serving as a constant resource as he built his career. When he began looking for a meaningful way to give back to the community, a suggestion from Roy Eitan, an existing Board Member, pointed him toward the SJPLF.

“I was looking for ways to give back and this seemed like a great fit.” Mark shares. “Meeting the dedicated people who serve on the board confirmed that I wanted to be part of this.”

To Mark, the library is a place where the tools for success are available to anyone with the curiosity to seek them out.

When asked to finish the sentence, “A library is more than just books; it’s a…” Mark didn’t hesitate: “…key component of one’s education and a place where dreams can happen. The information is all there; we just need to look for it.”

While Mark is a passionate advocate for literacy and education, he is still working full-time “and loving every minute of it.”

Outside of Mark’s professional and philanthropic work, you can usually find him staying active as a self-proclaimed “gym rat” or spending time with his wife and three wonderful grandchildren.

Mark is also a dedicated umpire for youth baseball and softball teams across the Almaden Valley and South Bay. His love for the game runs deep. “If the San Francisco Giants ever call, I’m going,” he jokes. “Whether it’s to play, umpire, or even clean the toilets—I’m there!”

We are thrilled to have Mark’s energy, dedication, and “team player” mentality on our Library Foundation Board of Directors. Next time you see him at the library or behind home plate, be sure to say hello!
