“This past summer I helped a patron with her application for a position at a nonprofit organization. She was nervous about applying, but was very passionate about the position and organization. I reviewed and edited her cover letter and resume. We met several times to work on her application and perfect her cover letter. About a month after we met, she emailed me to inform me that she got the job, showing me a picture of her office badge, and thanking me for helping her get the job.” SJPL Works Librarian
“[Summer Learning] has helped our family to be active readers and have found the passion for reading. I am glad that this program was created in our community because it was really helpful for my children and myself to keep us busy over the summer and wanting to read more. It has helped us socialize more about the books we read together.”
“We have this one student who came to us at the beginning of the school year…he was really behind. He didn’t know how to read. We worked with him one-on-one and saw his growth from the beginning of the school year, when he barely knew his ABC’s and could hardly spell his name, to the end of the school year when he was reading at grade level!” Program Staff, Moreland School District
“We love the sense of community story time creates. We love the children’s area & inventory of books. We feel like we belong here and this is our second home!”
“I can’t believe that you have this program and it is free!” Caregivers of Wee program participants
“SJ Aspires showed me what it takes to get to college and understand the college application process. My parents didn’t have a college education—I’ll be the first in my family to go to college. I’m excited to use my scholarship next year!” – Jesus, incoming freshman, San José State University
“The program was definitely worth it because now I carry a confidence I didn’t have before I had my diploma,” wrote one student. “I feel like I can achieve anything I set my mind to when it comes to my education, I feel empowered…. Thanks to the online high school program, I’m on my way.”

“I was able to learn so many things that I have now implemented in my life and by example to my son. One of these was prioritizing the important things which is our education and self-sacrifice for something great. I thank you all from my depths for this opportunity.” ESL adult learner
“There is not a lot of places where you can learn coding, especially for free, and the library is a hub for the community and having it here makes it easy for people. I love being able to help my students when they are feeling stuck and when they see the solution, I really enjoy that smile on their face.” Prothit Halder, Coding5K teacher

When I fill out an application and it asks do I have a high school diploma, I can now say YES with dignity. So grateful for the program because my self-worth is now SKY HIGH! For the first time, I feel like there is nothing I can’t do.

I love the program, without it I don’t believe I would have ever gone back to complete high school. This program gave me the push I needed, it fit into my crazy busy life and I will forever be grateful for it.
