Sam’s Practice Page

Welcome

Try to add new content into individual blocks. Use a height of 40 for smaller spaces and 60 for larger spaces, with spaces referring to the space between the blocks. When you’re adding media, it’s important to include alternative text (also known as “alt text”) that describes the image for people who are blind or visually impaired, as well as a title and caption. You can copy and paste the alt text to the title and caption fields. Keep the font size at 20 throughout the site to improve readability, and use black font instead of the hard-to-read default light gray. Text should default to center left, even if it looks different on the editing page, so always check the preview. When adding a URL, remember to click “open on a new tab” before adding the new link. Avoid using different font sizes and colors as much as possible, as it can become confusing for people reading the site. Remember that accessibility in web design is crucial for creating an inclusive experience for all users, so make sure to follow these tips for creating an accessible website.

The Need

Factors like family income, pregnancy, mental health, and unsupported learning differences can all lead young people to drop out of high school before graduation. Currently, 17% of Santa Clara County students do not graduate high school, and as the cost of living continues to rise, surviving in San José and Silicon Valley without a diploma becomes increasingly difficult. The Alliance for Excellent Education’s Graduation Effect economic model projects that if the United States were able to reach a 90% high school graduation rate, it would translate to a $3.1 billion increase in annual earnings, create more than 14,000 new jobs, and save $16.1 billion in health care costs.

Sylvia's Story

“I gained a lot from the program. It was hard, but I learned that if I want something, I need to be perseverant. Right now, I am looking to obtain a college diploma. I plan to become a coach for parents who have autistic kids. It is never too late to achieve your dream!”
